1. Tahoe City Rotary Foundation began in 1992 and is the local foundation.
2. This is the 501(c)3 arm of our Rotary Club.
3. Who runs the Tahoe City Rotary Foundation?
Board of Directors, composed of five Rotarians not on the Club Board; Currently, Jerry Betker, Patti Boxeth, Jim Moore, Bruce Pohle and Roger Ramseier. The Rotary Club's President sits on the Foundation Board as a non-voting member. A majority of current Foundation members can vote out any of the Foundation Directors.
4. Goal- For the Rotary Foundation to grow to a size where most monies given to the community for grants and scholarships can be done from the earnings of the Foundation endowment and scholarship accounts.
5. Anybody can make donations to the Foundation, and they do: Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club, friends of Rotarians, donations in memory of someone, etc.
6. How does the Foundation Grow?
From donations made by Rotarians and other individuals, (the annual Foundation membership drive); Memorial contributions and bequests through a will and 10% of the profits from all Rotary Club fundraisers, i.e. Ski Challenge and the Auction.
7. T. C. Rotary Foundation has two accounts, one for the grants endowment with a balance as of September 30, 2007 of $482,745 and one for the Sloan Kilner scholarship account with a balance as of September 30, 2007 of $67,309.
The funds are professionally administered and invested (through, UBS) by the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation.
THE GOAL IS TO REACH $1,000,000 IN THE ENDOWMENT FUND AND $100,000 IN THE SCHOLARSHIP FUND BY SEPTEMBER 30, 2015.
8. Because we are in the growth stage of the endowment, a prudent formula has been established to determine the dollar amount of grants given annually (between $10,000 and $14,000). From the scholarship account, $2.000 is given annually to a North Tahoe High School student.
9. Grants - Different from Rotary Club Grants because Foundation grants are only for capital expenditures (having a life of five years) vs. Club grants for projects that normally occur within twelve months.
If you have any questions, please ask one of the Tahoe City Foundation Board members.
